Die vielgelesene Verteidigung und Cicero-Charakteristik, erschien erstmals 1553 unter dem Titel „De veris principiis et vera ratione philosophandi contra pseudophilosophos“ und wurde im 17. Jahrhundert unter dem Titel „Antibarbarus philosophicus“ von seinem großen Bewunderer Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz mit einem eigenen Vorwort versehen zweimal neu herausgegeben. Einband mit Gebrauchsspuren, gedunkelt, Ecken berieben, Blätter teils leicht wasserrandig, mehrere Besitzerstempel auf Innendeckel, Titel, wenige Marginalien von alter Hand. Gutes Exemplar.
Probably the 2nd edition of the edition first published by Antoine de Harsy in Lyon in 1587 in the arrangement by Jacobus Cellarius, Marcello Squarcialupe (foreword from 1576) and Coelius Secundus Curio (foreword Basel 1583). Compare: Pettegree / Walsby „French Books published in France before 1601“ number 80883. The widely read defense and Cicero characteristic, which first appeared in 1553 under the title „De veris principiis et vera ratione philosophandi contra pseudophilosophos“ and in the 17th century under the Title „Antibarbarus philosophicus“ provided by his great admirer Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz with his own preface, which was reissued twice. Full leather binding of the time with blind embossed floral and figurative book decoration in roll print (Fides, Spes, Pride), 2 metal clasps. Cover with traces of wear, darkened, corners rubbed, leaves partly slightly water-stained, several owner’s stamps on inner cover, title, a few marginalia by old hand. Good copy.
