Faksimile der Ausgabe Amsterdam: Apud Joannem Janssonium, 1661. Mit allegorischem Titelblatt in Farbe und goldgehöht, farbiger Titelvignette und 29 doppelblattgroßen, kosmographischen Farbtafeln. Die dem Faksimileteil nachgebundenen 39 Seiten Kommentarteil beschreiben den historischen Kontext, aus dem heraus Andreas Cellarius berühmter Himmelsatlas entstehen konnte. Erwähnung finden dabei auch Nicolaus Copernicus, Isaac Newton, Tyhcho Brahe und Johannes Kepler. Weiterhin wird der Sternenatlas vor dem zeitgenössischen Spannungsfeld von religiöser und sich neu findender, wissenschaftlicher Weltauffassung diskutiert. Abschließend folgt ein expliziter Kommentar zu den einzelnen Tafeln. Sehr gutes Exemplar.

With a colored and gold-heightened allegorical title page, a colored title vignette, and 29 double-page cosmographical plates in color. The facsimile is followed by a 39-page commentary section outlining the historical context in which Andreas Cellarius’s famous celestial atlas was created. The commentary discusses, among others, Nicolaus Copernicus, Isaac Newton, Tycho Brahe, and Johannes Kepler, and situates the atlas within the contemporary tension between religious tradition and an emerging scientific worldview. The volume concludes with a detailed commentary on each individual plate. Fine copy.
