Vorliegend die achte und letzte in Black Letter gedruckte Ausgabe des berühmten Martyrologiums von 1641. Englischsprachige Ausgabe. Graesse II, 623. Gegenüber den vorangegangenen Ausgaben erweitert und mit einer vollständig erneuerten Folge von Holzschnitten ausgestattet, da die ursprünglich verwendeten Druckstöcke inzwischen verschlissen waren. Mit 77 Holzschnitten (teilweise wiederholend), davon 2 ganzseitig, einzelnen Holzschnittinitialen, Schlussvignette und zahlreichen eingedruckten Marginalien. Ohne das Porträtfrontispiz, es fehlen das Titelblatt, die ersten 4 Blätter und das letzte Registerblatt. Vorsätze mit kopierten Exlibris im Stile älterer Zeit, kleinerer Vorbesitzerstempel auf Vorsätzen. Seiten gering gebräunt, stellenweise leicht stockfleckig. Seite 149/150 im ersten Teil mit größerer Randfehlstelle (ca. 22 x 7 cm, Textverlust). Einige Seiten mit Randeinrissen bzw. kleineren Randfehlstellen (überwiegend in den Stegen und ohne Textberührung, vereinzelt etwas stärker eingerissen und mit Textberührung, jedoch nur in einem Fall mit kleinerem Textverlust). Die Tafel „How Bucers bones, and Paulus Pagius bones were put into two new Cofins“ mit Randeinriss (ca. 4 cm Bildberührung). Zahlreiche Paginierungsfehler bei vollständigem und fortlaufendem Text. Die Gesamtzählung ist lediglich durch den Sprung von Seite 468 auf Seite 471 [statt 469] im Hauptteil sowie durch die doppelte Vergabe der Seiten 105 und 106 im zweiten Teil inkorrekt. Die Holzschnitte überwiegend in klaren, kräftigen Abdrucken erhalten. Insgesamt gutes Exemplar.

Present here is the eighth and final edition of the celebrated martyrology printed in Black Letter, issued in 1641. English-language edition. Graesse II, 623. Expanded in comparison with the preceding editions and furnished with a completely renewed series of woodcuts, the original blocks having become worn through use. With 77 woodcuts (some repeated), including 2 full-page illustrations, woodcut initials, a terminal vignette, and numerous printed marginal notes. As usual, accompanied by: A Continuation of the Histories of Forreine Martyrs: from the happy reigne of the most renowned Queene Elizabeth unto these times. London, printed by Ric. Lacking the engraved portrait frontispiece, the title page, the first four leaves, and the final register leaf. Endpapers with copied bookplates in the style of earlier periods and a small former-owner’s stamp. Pages slightly browned and occasionally lightly foxed. Leaf containing pp. 149/150 in the first part with a larger marginal loss (approx. 22 x 7 cm), affecting the text. Several leaves with marginal tears and smaller marginal losses, mostly confined to the margins without affecting the text; a few somewhat more extensive and touching the text, though with minor loss in only one instance. The plate “How Bucers bones, and Paulus Pagius bones were put into two new Cofins” with a marginal tear (approx. 4 cm, extending into the image). Numerous pagination errors throughout, though the text remains complete and continuous. The pagination is incorrect only through the jump from p. 468 to p. 471 [instead of 469] in the main work and the duplicate numbering of pp. 105 and 106 in the continuation. The woodcuts are for the most part preserved in clear, strong impressions. Overall a good copy.
