Erste Ausgabe. Norwegischsprachige Ausgabe. Mit Frontispiz, Titelblattillustration und 18 ganzseitigen Zeichnungen von Theodor Kittelsen (1857-1914). Die berühmte Märchensammlung versammelt Erzählungen und Darstellungen aus der nordischen Sagenwelt, darunter Nisse, Hulder und Fossegrim sowie zahlreiche weitere Gestalten der nordischen Sagenwelt. Kittelsens Trolle erscheinen dabei nicht nur als furchterregende Wesen, sondern zugleich grotesk, melancholisch, verspielt oder geradezu kindlich. Mit seinen charakteristischen Illustrationen prägte er das bis heute verbreitete Bild der norwegischen Trollwelt maßgeblich. Einband minimalst lichtrandig, mit einzelnen blassen Fingerflecken und einem kleinen roten Farbfleck an der Stehkante des Vorderdeckels. Ecken etwas bestoßen. Vorsätze stärker leimschattig. Einzelne Seiten bzw. Tafeln in den weißen Stegen leicht stockfleckig. Gutes bis sehr gutes Exemplar dieses erstaunlichen Werks.

This celebrated collection of fairy tales brings together stories and depictions from the world of Nordic legend, including the Nisse, Hulder, and Fossegrim, as well as numerous other figures from Nordic folklore. Kittelsen’s trolls are not portrayed solely as frightening creatures; they are at once grotesque, melancholic, playful, and almost childlike. Through his distinctive illustrations, Kittelsen decisively shaped the image of the Norwegian troll world that remains prevalent today. The binding is minimally sunned at the edges, with a few faint finger marks and a small red paint spot on the fore-edge of the front cover. Corners slightly bumped. Endpapers with pronounced glue staining. Occasional light foxing to the margins of individual leaves and plates. A good to very good copy of this remarkable work.
